Giorgio Colutta – MKRF2026 speaker

Giorgio Colutta
Owner of the third-generation family winery and agritourism business Colutta, winemaker, and agricultural entrepreneur
The Perspective He Brings to the Congress
Giorgio brings to the congress the perspective of someone who has spent his entire life building a family business while recognizing that continuity can never be taken for granted. As a third-generation owner of a family winery and an entrepreneur who has successfully expanded into new business areas and international markets, he understands that the future of a company is not always tied to generational succession. His experience demonstrates that the key question is not only who will take over the business, but above all how to ensure it continues to serve the family, preserve the wealth that has been created, and uphold the values on which it was built.
Keynote
What If There Is No One to Pass the Business On To?
How to think about the future of a family business without a successor? Giorgio and Erika will open a topic many families avoid facing — how to think about the future of a business when there is no successor. They will show why generational succession is not the only path forward and how a business can continue serving the family even without the next generation taking over. They will share experiences and decisions that need to be made early — before time makes them for you.
About the Speaker
Giorgio Colutta is a third-generation owner of Colutta Wines, a family winery located in the Friuli Venezia Giulia region of northeastern Italy. Although he graduated in Pharmacy with highest honors, he chose to dedicate his professional career to the family business, where he has been actively involved for more than four decades. He produced his first vintage in 1985 and has since devoted his life to building a winery founded on respect for the land, uncompromising quality, and a long-term entrepreneurial vision.
Under his leadership, the winery has grown significantly, achieved SQNPI sustainable farming certification, and established an export network spanning 25 countries worldwide. Today, international markets account for approximately 65% of the company’s revenue. In addition to expanding the winery, he has diversified the family business into renewable energy through photovoltaic projects and into agritourism.
Throughout his career, Giorgio has held several prominent public and professional leadership roles. He served as president of agricultural associations at both the provincial and regional levels, sat on the boards of financial and banking institutions, was a member of the Chamber of Commerce in Udine, and served as president of the Conservatory of Music in Udine. These experiences have given him a unique perspective on the intersection of business, ownership, family, and social responsibility.
Today, he continues to focus on developing the family winery, expanding international markets, and promoting sustainable agriculture. His firsthand experience in a family business that has successfully navigated multiple generations makes him an authentic and respected voice in conversations about the future of family enterprises and the decisions that extend far beyond a single generation.
